On the weekend of September 6, 2008, 37 people from Farmworkers Self-Help here in Dade City took a bus to Birmingham to participate in the Marguerite Casey Foundation's Equal Voice for America's Families campaign.

The trip to Birmingham, Alabama, for the Equal Voice for America’s Families National Family Convention was a once in a lifetime experience for me! This trip was eye opening in the sense that I was able to see the level of the problems that exist in states other than Florida. I was able to see that everyone else voiced the same concerns as those mentioned by myself and others here in Florida. I was very glad to see that my people were able to participate and feel proud to say that their voices were heard and that the ideas that they proposed will be taken into consideration to present to our nation’s public officials! That Saturday I felt such camaraderie between the thousands that were present, we were all from different races but felt to be as one!!!!!
